PIFF 2007

It's been already September. My birth month is September.
Anyway because I have been busy I didn't know Its September. Soon Piff2007 is gonna be held.
I just saw the programs in www.piff.org. I don't have idea If I go to Pusan(Busan) during the first weekend of October, however, there are lots of films I want to see.

First, Huo Hsiao-Hsien's new film, Flight of the Red Balloon is the most missing one.
He made it in France with actress, Juliette Binoche. Maybe everybody knows her. I think that movie might be released in Korea. or my hope.

Piff has many sections. A window on Asian Cinema is the most interesting for me. From a several years I am more likely to have considered asian films well than others. I think because I am an asian. Asia has changed everything quickly(only for decades) compared to europe or america. The impacts of changes have great influence on the people living in Asia. the rich with cellphone drive a luxery car, the some poor don't know even the electricity. The difference of thoughts between the rich and the poor is getting wider than ever. and they aren't willing to undetstand each other.
In asian films I can see the realities and understand their realities. Because I am an asian and have experience in those.
I still agree the Art is based on the reality.

Love Dog by Ming Zhang, River People by Jianjun He, A Gentle breeze in the Village by Nobuhiro Yamashita, Sad Vacation by Aoyama Sinji, SlingShot, Foster child by Brillante Mendoza in the Philippines, The Sun also Rises by Wen Jiang, and Tuya's merriage introduced in Berlin by Quan An Wang. These are what I can see in the section of a window on Asian Cinema.
Then I wanna see "To each his cinema". It opened in Cannes this year. 35 great directors took a short film each, and collect them in commemoration of the 60th Cannes film festival.
If you know the name of the directors, I am sure you are surprising.

In my opinion the real amusement in the film festival is to make the own timetable for seeing. For that we have to decide what to see. But there are several hundreds of films showing, we don't have much time. 2 years ago I chose the films the director I like directed. At that time I was very fascinated. but 2 months later I regreted. Many of films i saw would be waiting for releasing. However a few films I didn't saw are never released. Now If someone ask me, I recommend "Select films that would not be released."
As you know, we can see some debut of new directors in many film festival. If we select famous director's there would be no debut film in our list. But I remember the apperance of new great film and director, such as Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino in Cannes in 1994. Suddenly a great film is often discovered by us.
The section of New Currents is like that. we can see new director's films here.

There are two Special retrospectives. One is Daruish Merhrjui another is Edward Yang.
Frankly I don't know who is Daruish Merhrjui.(Sorry)
In the retrospective on Edward Yang we can see his 8 films. Those are all of his works. I saw only 4 films.
So If I have the time to go, I will see all of Edward Yang's films.
