at Seoul Art Cinema

Yesterday, of course on sunday I went to Seoul Art Cinema, which is one of the movie theaters operated by 'The Korean Association of Cinematheque'.
And I'm a supporter of it.
I think SAC lags behind other nations.
Nowadays SAC has started the movement, "Making a own theater".
One was that SAC held '2nd festival of La Amis de la cinematheque'(means Friends of cinematheque) last month.
Many famous and populat directors in korea participated in it and seminars as panels.
I went there, of course, and watched some of art films.

Anyway Britsh Free Cinema was opening there yesterday.
I selected a movie, "A Kind of Love" by John Schelsinger. It was the first movie of him.
It was interesting somewhat, however I dozed. :P

The day before yesterday I watched "Babel" alone.
It was a really difficult movie of others I saw lately.
Its like an omnibus movie made by one director. Each episode is linked with a trivial relationship of characters. and people in episodes failed to communicate with each other.
From it tragic events happen. Characters lay in that situation, and they should choice under the imminent case.
Some of behaviors were sometime wrong. For example, Chieko has drugs and undresses herself as an expression of loneliness. There is no need to say that is wrong. And she would think so.
I think that is the babel, the confusion.

The director, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, of Babel is so great in editing.
Furthermore he knows the way to express a situation between the best moment and the worst.
After Susan had a pee, Richard and she kissed. I love that sceane. Anyone can't imagine the expression in their situation.

Desipite of them, Babel is difficult to understand.
Because I don't know his life in Mexico and the United States, I can't figure out why in Morroco, Japan.
Today Academy award was held. Babel won only Best Music(score).
Actually I miss Clint Eastwood didn't won!
By the way if I have more time I'd like watch Babel again.

This picture is inside the movie theater, MegaBox, where I watched Babel.

Again

A couple of weeks ago I was in a cafe with Kate for killing time.

These are the most recent pictures, I had hair cut last weekend though.

Christine said I looked like older but better. Thanks. :)

Happy Chinese New Year

It has already gone. I hope, however, it will be happy this year to all.
From last saturday to yesterday, it was chinese new year holydays in Korea.
I visited my grandmother's home, and then saw 2 movies at theater.
One is flags of our fathers and the other is three times.
Both of all are great.(So I am still happy) someday I prepare to write them.
Especially first episode of three time titled "dream of youth" is the best
I was fascinated by the beauty of the image of it.
The camera movements following actor and actress are beautiful, perfect.
Hou Hsiao-Hsien doesn't disappoint me. Never! and Clint Eastwood also.
Hou's next film will open reportedly in Canne this year.

I have been waiting for it for several years.

New movies have been released

Yesterday, V day, some movies have been released in Seoul.
(feel sorry that some of those won't be released in other cities Korea.)
The list made me be excited. wow.
1. Three times by Hou Hsiao-hsien.
I already saw it at Piff 2005. now its released.
2 years ago, it went to Canne in competition section. but he didnt win.
Cahire du cinema wrote about that, the juries of Canne didn't have a high level as they understood his film.
Anyway because i didn't watch yet at this time, I will go to theater this weekend.
2. flags of our fathers by Clint Eastwood
That is so well-known that I don't have to say anything about it.
I'd like to see it as well as the letter from Iwo Jima
I think I should urge the openning of the letter from Iwo Jima soon.
3. Dreamgirls
4. Babel directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
In his former film, 21grams, the edition of it was the best one recent years.

From this saturday chinese new year holidays begin for 4 days.
During this time I will enjoy with those films.
V-day? I didn't do. just worked.

Now 57th Berlin international Film Festival is held.
I just saw the list of program. It is not much stimulated me than other festivals.
I prefer Canne tp Berlin. I don't know why. Acutually Canne is more commercial. yup. And Berlin is more political.
Despite of it, Some names of directors drive me crazy.
First. the letter from Iwo Jima, by Clint eastwood. Last year he made two films which is about World War 2. One is the view of American , another is Japanese.
Flags of our fathers for Academy, the letter from Iwo Jima for Berlin, I think.
It is a better choice to submit the letter from Iwo Jima for Berlin.
The Second is Hyazgar by Zhang lu. He is a Chinese korean director.
The reason I expect the Hyazgar is that I've seen his former film, Grain in Ear. The last scene of it made me cry. Grain in Ear was the best film of mine last year.
He made only 3 films, However, he has his own way to harmonize film with our reality.
I also wander Jiri menzel's and Jacques Rivette's, what on earth are theirs?
On the berlinale's website, I could see the name of Julie Delpy. but the name is lied on a part of Director.
huh! Director Julie Delpy? Immediately I searched her on imdb.
2 days in Paris is the first long film of her. she made only 3 short films.
actually I like her as an actress.
Of course, I love before sunrise, before sunset, the three colors:white by Kieslowski. Maybe the memory of her in before sunset catches my eyes.
The last. Aju teukbyeolhan sonnim(english title is Ad Lib Night) is a Korean movie, directed by Lee Yoon-ki. I already saw that.
some of Korean Movies went to Berlin, I think adlib night is the best among other korean films.
after seeing i could feel it's also his film. he is a man but he may know what are women.
In his films, the story flow through the woman' view.
His sense is so delicate that I mixed up the director is a real man.
He made it from the a little special one night story, However, he didn't surprise as like Hong Sangsoo and pull the story tense.
Always clam but anxious.

Since the first in Feb I have started to swim.
Long time ago i thought to need to take an exercise for health. And now i do.
It's just an exercise but actually I learn how to swim.
on the first day, the teacher asked me to know how to swim.
I said yes. Because I know it though i was taught only for a month at age of 14. After the times I learned it more from friends.
Then the teacher let me swim in the lane of 6. There were some people having swimming level similar to me.
on the second day of swimming, the teacher taught the way of the butterfly as you know.
uggg. Fortunately I could(just body waving). Then it's fun.
because I swam just for a week, after swimming I was so exhausted to go to work.(It starts at 6:30 AM from monday till friday)
But it makes me refresh active and not tiring during a day.
the picture is from someone's flickr. of course they are professional.
I hope someday to be almost professional.

Originally uploaded by junsang, stanley, whatever.

while i was in Europe, 2004, i wandered from place to place with my camera all day long.
before the trip, i just got a scooter for commute in Korea.
when i saw that scooter, i should put the viewfinder on my eye.
the red thing was so beautiful to stand for a while.
i think it might be near Montmartre in Paris.

Empire of Dreams "Rene Magritte"

I viewed an exhibition, Empire of Dreams, "Rene Magritte".
He was a very famous surrealistic Painter, and directed a few short silent films.

I really like his paintings, and his thought.
His paintings ask whether is true or false?
is it true what you're seeing??

And his work tell me that he loved nature.
I love who love nature.

in the exhibition, many famous his works do not come. But its enough to feel his artistic Aura.

Here are more information. Homepage of this exhibition
